How much does private health insurance cost in Florida?
Private health insurance in Florida has no public price list. A private PPO is quoted for you, based on your age, ZIP code, tobacco use, health answers and the deductible you choose. The main kinds are private PPOs with health questions, short-term plans and fixed indemnity plans; health care sharing ministries are not insurance. For comparison, Florida's 2026 benchmark silver ACA plan averaged $683 a month at age 40 before subsidies. Source: KFF
Why private plan prices are so hard to pin down
- Every website shows a different "starting at" price, and none of them match the quote you get.
- You earn too much for an ACA subsidy, so you're looking at private plans for the first time.
- An ad promised a cheap plan, and you can't tell if it's insurance, a discount card or a sharing ministry.
- You're healthy and don't understand why your answers to health questions change the price.
- You don't know whether a higher deductible actually saves you money over a year.
- You'd rather ask someone in Spanish than guess from an English-only quote form.
How Emily gets you a real private plan price
- A quote for you, not a sample. Private PPO prices for your age, your ZIP and your answers.
- Plain talk about what you're buying. Emily explains whether a plan is insurance, what it covers and what it limits before you apply.
- Deductible options side by side. Lower premium with a higher deductible, or the other way around, with the yearly math shown.
- Health questions explained up front. You'll know how your answers affect approval and price.
- Honest about ACA plans. Emily only sells private PPO plans. If you have a pre-existing condition or qualify for a subsidy, she'll say so and point you to HealthCare.gov. Private vs ACA, explained.
- In English or Spanish. From her office in Plantation, by phone or video.

What are the kinds of private health insurance?
"Private" covers several very different products. A private PPO sold outside the Marketplace usually asks health questions; approval and price depend on your answers, there's no subsidy, and it may limit or exclude pre-existing conditions. This is what Emily sells.
A short-term plan fills a gap for a set term. KFF found these plans are medically underwritten, priced on health, sex and age, and that all the products it reviewed exclude pre-existing conditions; some cap total benefits as low as $100,000 per term. A fixed indemnity plan pays a set dollar amount per day or service, whatever the bill, and KFF warns it can be marketed as a substitute for full coverage. Source: KFF
A health care sharing ministry is not insurance at all. Florida law requires it to tell members it is not an insurance company, that no one is obliged to pay their bills, and that members stay responsible for their own medical bills. Source: Florida Statutes 624.1265
What drives the price of a private PPO in Florida?
Six things move a private PPO quote. Age: older applicants pay more. ZIP code: prices and networks change by area. Tobacco: smokers pay more. Health answers: they decide whether you're approved and at what rate. Deductible: a higher deductible lowers the monthly premium and raises what you pay before the plan pays. Plan design: copays, the out-of-pocket maximum, prescription coverage and the size of the network.
ACA plans work differently. By law they can only price on age (older people pay at most three times more), location, tobacco (up to 50% more), individual or family coverage and plan category, and they can't look at your health or charge men and women differently. Source: HealthCare.gov Plans that ask health questions aren't priced under those same rules, which is why a healthy applicant can see a lower rate and someone with a condition can see a higher one, an exclusion or a decline.
Why is there no public price list for private plans?
Because the final rate only exists after the insurer reviews your application. ACA prices are public: you can see every Marketplace plan for your ZIP on HealthCare.gov before you apply. A plan that underwrites can only give an estimate until your health answers are in, so any "from $X a month" ad is someone else's profile, often a young, healthy applicant on a high deductible.
What you can compare against are public averages. In 2026 the Florida benchmark silver plan averaged $683 a month for a 40-year-old before subsidies, and the cheapest bronze $505. Source: KFF Employer coverage averaged $9,325 a year for one person in 2025, of which workers paid $1,440. Source: KFF Employer Health Benefits Survey
